Beach Polo Cup 2016 – Riviera Nayarit, Mexico

Summer, sun & beach weather around 30ºC – those were the conditions for the Beach Polo Cup 2016 in Riviera Nayarit from December 16-19, 2016. Sponsored by Tucanê, Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta, Top Sports Mexico & Riviera Nayarit, the fifth edition of the international event took place at the Elite Residences beach in Flamingos in Nuevo Vallarta. Highly renowned within the community, the Beach Polo Cup is a one-of-a-kind event with very few editions around the world and unique in Mexico.

I was very honored to attend the Beach Polo Cup with Tucanê, the elite sports clothing brand which you already know from my previous blogs. Together with other models, who were booked for the Tucanê Spring/Summer 2017 runway show on the first night, we arrived early for a long weekend at the Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta. The all-inclusive hotel is one of the main luxury resorts in Vallarta with a fantastic pool area towards the beach, international restaurants, cocktail bars in every corner, an amazing spa & lots of night entertainment.

On the first night, we had a welcome cocktail by the beach that led into a seated dinner and the Tucanê runway show, where pieces of the upcoming collection were presented. After the show, the four competing Polo teams (Hard Rock, Riviera Nayarit, Cuadra & Top Sports) were presented with their players from all over Mexico, Argentina, and Europe. All teams were given Polo shirts, of course all made by Tucanê.

On the second day, we started with a delicious breakfast in the hotel’s beach restaurant and were offered fun aquatic activities like surf boarding, paddle boarding, and also beach volleyball. It was a great opportunity to meet everyone from the Tucanê team and the other event attendees. Around 1 pm in the afternoon, we then had to get ready for the first day of Polo games. The tournament was held on a beach outside the populated area in front of breathtaking scenery. Please have a look at the pictures below to see this amazing view with the sunset and sparkling ocean in the background. After 3 hours of polo games and social networking, I returned to the hotel with the Tucanê team and we spent the rest of the day by the pool. I enjoyed every second of the warm weather because I knew that only a few days later I would be in freezing Germany for the Christmas holidays.

On the third day, we had late breakfast and returned to the final day of Beach Polo. In the final game, Team Hard Rock was beaten 5 to 1 by Team Riviera Nayarit that became the new champion of the Beach Polo Tour Mexico. Sunday afternoon and Monday we spent in the hotel by the pool.

Congratulations to the winners of the Beach Polo Cup 2016 and to Tucanê for organizing and hosting such an impressive international event! The year could not have ended better.

Don’t forget to check the new Tucanê!
